Coast to Coast charity ride

Posted on: Thursday 20th July 2017

A huge THANK YOU to all who donated and supported us on the coast to coast challenge.

We smashed the target we had set and in the end raised nearly £3’500 for Trinity Hospice and Brian House.   The ride was quite an epic through some challenging conditions. We rolled out of Morecambe at 6am in warm sunshine however as we started heading over to Settle the clouds rolled in as the wind picked up.

Two of the biggest climbs of the day came straight out of Settle and then 10 miles further on as we headed over towards Pateley Bridge with constant gradients of over 20%. From there we raced into Ripon to take cover for half an hour while a thunder storm rolled over us with torrential rain. It was then a wet windy ride down to York before turning East for the final section to Bridlington.

The final big climb at around 145 miles was Garrowby Hill, 1 mile of 16% gradient certainly made the already tired legs sting! We arrived at Bridlington seafront around 20:30  after clocking up over 11 and a half hrs ride time. We had to tweak the route to stay on the tarmac after the heavy rain which increased the amount of climbing from the original planned route so by the end we had covered 165 miles and climbed over 11,000ft but successfully completed the coast to coast challenge!
